David Ryan, Shaker of the Month, July ’15

When it comes to high intensity training, everyone has their own personal threshold or breaking point. The results that we desire are always there lingering around in that uncomfortable and unfamiliar area of the training session!

Our July Shaker of the month is a legend who seems to enjoy that gnarly, uncomfortable area that most people despise! David Ryan is often, affectionately referred to as “Animal”! Since the Shake UP PBC beginnings, Dave has been destroying workouts and seeing some pretty amazing improvements in strength and conditioning. Dave is the kind of guy who will destroy himself, collapse to the ground and proceed to scream words of encouragement to the rest of the crew who are yet to finish the workout! A true Shake UP legend and a very deserved Shaker of the Month

We recently caught up with Dave to chat about life and what he believes is the best thing he has ever done!

G’day Dave. Can you please tell us a little bit about yourself?

Ok…I am 37 years old, married to my beautiful wife Kate and have a son Henry who is almost 2 years old. I am absolutely loving being a dad! Its seriously the best thing I have ever done! Spending time with Henry really helps to keep things in perspective.

Umm…What else, I am a builder and operate a building and pest inspection business. I love surfing and every spare minute i get I am out there! There is this order that is forming in my life and surfing kinda sits about 4th down the list after Kate, Henry and then work. Surfing is always going to be a huge part of my life!

How long have you been training at The Shake UP for mate?

I guess it’s probably just over a year now. A year and I am still loving it!

So what have you achieved over these last 12 months?

I have really developed my functional strength and fitness. I love the strength based workouts here like the dead ball sessions. For me this training environment is about staying in condition so that when I am surfing, working and doing the things I love, I have what it takes mentally and physically.

What keeps you coming back to the Shake UP?

Um… It just really works for me. I have a pretty busy schedule with work and family so having that flexibility to come down here go hard for halfa then get home to the family and work life. It just fits into my life very well. The sessions are always challenging and always very different which keeps things interesting. Some very cool crew down here also which makes it easier to get down here.

Whats your worst exercise?

Probably the sprint sessions. I am not a runner and those sessions tend to smash me around a little.

Dave knows very well that the Salt Mill coffee experience is the best on the coast and will enjoy the very generous $30.00 Shaker of the Month voucher from Johny and the crew at the Salt Mill. A Cultured Life’s very delicious kombucha and water kefir are coming Daves way also! A HUGE thank you to our sponsors for your continued support. Its always very much appreciated guys.
