Who is Laura Duffin?

Hi! my name is Ben O’Connor, Head Coach and Founder of The Shake UP and I have the great pleasure of interviewing our  January 2014 Shaker of the month. Laura Duffin is an inspirational woman who successfully balances,a full time job, studying, family life with 3 children and hitting 5 Shake UP sessions a week! We caught up with Laura to chat, family, training and her hatred of burpees!

So Laura, tell us a little about yourself?

Well I am 30 years old and have 3 beautiful children, the youngest of which is 18 months old. I own a  home hairdressing salon and am currently studying to be a youth worker. I have been a member of the Shake UP for 6 months now and have to say that this program has changed the way I view exercise!

What do you mean by that last statement?

Before I had my last child… I hadn’t really exercised for 10 years. I never really enjoyed training but since I’ve joined The Shake UP, I find myself looking forward to the sessions and enjoying the challenging variety.

What are you most proud of achieving at The Shake UP?

Well, I have lost 7 kgs and shed 5% body fat! My fitness levels are improving and I really like I am more competitive with myself now.

There are plenty of Training programs around; what is it about the Shake UP that keeps you coming back?

I love The Shake UP community and the support that everyone shows one another. Everyone just gets on with it and encourages each other.

What would you say are the biggest challenges for you in achieving your health and fitness goals?

Well, probably nutrition but I am improving. I know that I need to eat well to support my hectic schedule. Also finding a program that I enjoy and works with my time schedule. I love that The Shake UP sessions are short and intense. That works perfectly for me as I am juggling family, work and study.

What are your health and fitness goals for 2014?

To hit my target weight and to continue becoming fitter and more athletic.

In your opinion; What is the Worst workout or exercise?

That one… (referring to the 21 minute Triplex, just completed). Burpees are the worst! I am getting better at them though!
