Our Keep it Real – Autumn 2015 winner is an awesome success story! Lucie McDonald began training at the Shake UP back in mid 2014 and has paved the way for others to follow. We recently caught up with Lucie to chat about what it takes to be a mother of 4 and still make time for your health & fitness.

Lucie McDonaldG’day Lucy…Tell us a little bit about yourself .

Ok… I am a graphic designer. Married to my husband Steve. I have 4 kids, 2 girls 14, 6 and twin boys who are and 2 years old. I work 3 days a week and have a pretty hectic life.

How long have you been a member of the Shake UP?

All up about 14 months.

Why did you begin your Shake UP journey?

I started when my boys turned 1. I was falling into a spiral of bad habits and it was time to make a decision.  Be a ‘Rollie Pollie’ mum for the rest of my life and use motherhood as an excuse or get my act together. I had a few friends who were here that really spoke highly of The Shake UP. The best decision I have made!

In these last 6 months you have really managed to drop some body fat, can you give us an idea of the awesome changes you have achieved?

Ok, when i started I was 79kg’s and I now 14 months later I am 61kg’s. To be honest though the improvements in my fitness levels and mental resilience is what i enjoy most. 

What do you enjoy most about the Shake UP?

Umm…Probably the people. Awesome people. I love that I come here and am surrounded by people who are going to lift me to my best at every session. I have tried gyms and you just dont get that at gyms. I am definitely not a treadmill person!

What’s your worst exercise/workout?

I don’t know. They are all pretty tough. Running is probably my biggest weakness

What’s your Why Lucy? What gets you through the ugly times in a Shake UP session?

I am here for a reason. I take the time away from my family and kids to be here. I really want to make this time count. I always do my best at every session and I can truly say that this is what has got me to where I am today. I don’t do any other forms of training. I come here 3, sometimes 4 sessions a week and aim to make every session count. My family are a big motivator for me. I want to be the kind of mother who sets a positive example for my kids and can enjoy being active with them.
