If we had to describe who our target market is at the Shake UP or the type of member that we are looking for these are some of the character traits we would probably list:
Someone who is: Committed to their goals and willing to work their ass off to achieve these goals. Someone who is busy with life and wants to see results for the time they allocate to training. A busy parent, business owner or working professional. Someone who enjoys being a part of a team and likes getting involved in the community.
For those who haven’t met Will Hancock yet, let us give a brief Shaker profile on our March Shaker of the Month: Two and a half months ago Wilber came to the Shake UP and demonstrated his commitment to change by insisting on settling his training costs upfront to keep himself accountable. We know Will is a busy business owner because like all busy tradies, it’s always about the cash! The values and beliefs that Will demonstrates in raising his young family are what make this bloke an inspiration! Anyone with 3 kids under that age of 7 will agree, time is of the essence and with everything going on in this legends busy life he understands the importance of staying sharp, focused and making time for the things he loves.
We recently caught up with our Shaker of the month to chat about what it takes to juggle life as a busy parent:
So Will, tell us a bit about yourself?
I am 31, father of 3…Bessie (1) ,Charlie (3) and Noah (6) and am married to my beautiful wife Libby. I run my own plumbing business WPH Plumbing. Its pretty full on but very fulfilling. Every day is challenging but I kinda like it like that. I love to surf and have been playing drums since I was a young teenager.
How long have you been training at The Shake UP?
Um…About 2.5 months
Why do you train Will?
I am only 5 ft 8 and when I started The Shake UP I was 82kgs and feeling really heavy and sluggish. Even though my work is pretty physical, I just didn’t feel fit. We had that run of swell over Christmas and I was just surfing like a kook! I can’t have that! Also I am aware that my family has a history of heart disease and I have recently been exposed to some deaths related to ill health so I decided that I needed to get things under control while I could!
What have you achieved since being here at the Shake UP?
I have found that spring in my surfing again. Surfing is all about the speed and momentum generated from the take off and I feel like I have found the power needed. Also on the bigger days I am finding it way easier to push through the aerobic barriers. My back pain has reduced dramatically with the new found strength. My core is the strongest its been in a long time. I am down from 82kg’s to 78kg’s and feeling light again.
What gets you through a session? What’s your motivator?
To be honest, I try not to think about too much. Just shutting my brain off and being super present. As you know, running a business takes up loads of your focus so I like to shut it out. Sometimes I just look at a rock on the ground and try my best to manage the hurt.
What keeps you coming back to the Shake UP Will?
Seeing real change is what keeps me coming back! I feel like I am making progress and that excites me. On top of that it’s just a great group of people to train with and I find I can manage to balance all of my responsibilities and get here 3 to 4 times a week.
I’d have to say burpees. I am improving with these though and I know they improve my surfing so I don’t mind.
What a legend! Its an absolute pleasure having guys like Will in our training community. A very deserved winner of our Shaker of the Month. For all his hard work and commitment, Willy has scored himself a remedial massage with the Guru Sports massage therapist Peter Griffin from Palm Beach Chiropractic. Thanks so much to Pete for the continued support to the Shake UP.
