Cindy Hamrey is an amazing woman who is living her passion! The mission statement really says it all….
My philosophy on life is simple. It is to “Be kind”. Be kind to yourself- by treating yourself well, with food, actions and thoughts. Be Kind to your family and community. Be Kind- to the earth, living simply with love and gratitude. Giving gratitude everyday for our environment, nature and our loved ones, only takes a few seconds of thought, however, it can change your mind set for the day.
The Shake UP is super excited to announce that A Cultured Life will be very kindly supporting our Shaker of the Month with some very delicious cultured treats.
We recently caught up with Cindy to chat about her passion and to find out how we can all benefit from Cultured foods.
G’day Cindy. Can you give us an idea of what started your passion for cultured foods?
I have always had a passion for living simply, I grow most of my own vegetables, fruit and eggs. I make my own sour dough spelt bread and yoghurt. I am vegetarian and I was eating really well. Last year I got really sick, my body hurt all over, I was sleeping 16 hours per day, doctors did not know what was wrong, my naturopath had me on herbal medicines costing $120.00 per week, I could not work. I tried everything, no dairy, no sugar, no coffee and no fun!
My naturopath suggested to start eating cultured foods, now back in my hippy days I brewed kombucha and kefir. So I dragged out all my old recipes and fermenters. I had a small drink of kombucha and kefir with every meal. I then added sauerkraut to my diet. Within a few weeks, I was back at full time work. I had energy and no pain. The cultured foods put back the probiotics into my gut allowing my body to absorb all the great foods I was putting into it. If I have Kombucha, kefir and kraut everyday I feel fantastic.
Wow…Your Coffee Kombucha is bloody delicisious! Why Coffee Kombucha?
My daughter worked as a barista in Cabarita Beach, she would bring home cold brew coffee and I loved the taste and it was a little better for my stomach. I was brewing kombucha one day and I had some left over cold brew coffee, so I brewed the coffee instead of traditional tea and the flavour was fantastic.
My neighbour starting buying my Coffee Kombucha and she is part owner of Marie Anita’s Cafe at Burleigh Heads. She asked me to supply her cafe and now it is selling in 6 different outlets.
Can you tell us why you decided to call your business a Cultured Life?
I suppose I wanted a name that represented my life. I eat cultured foods to keep myself feeling fantastic. My life is about being kind to myself, family, community and environment. Cultured foods gives me the energy and vitality to live the life I love. A Cultured Life.
So do you believe cultured foods have a place in everyone’s diet?
I want people to know by simply eating natural probiotic food and drinks they can improve their health and wellbeing. Eating natural probiotics places all the good digestive enzymes into your stomach and this allows your body to absorb all the good nutrients. It does not matter how you eat or what diet you follow or if you have no diet at all, by introducing probiotics naturally to your diet you will benefit. You will start to feel great, more energy and boost your immune system. If you have a hang over, grab some Coffee Kombucha and you will feel better by lunchtime!
Where do we buy your Coffee Kombucha and Probiotic Water Kefir?
You can buy my drinks from Little Mali, Rainbow Bay, The Salt Mill, Currumbin Beach, The Pines Health Foods, The Pines Shopping centre, Sumptuous Fine Foods, Currumbin Creek Road and Marie Anita’s Café Burleigh Heads.
