Ella Simmons, Shaker of the Month, October ’15

The Shake UP is a program which is designed to promote a healthy lifestyle and to build a community of like minded people who inspire each other to improve their lives through health and fitness. When our members live and breathe that lifestyle and bring their own level of passion and commitment to our community, we are extremely thankful.

Ella is our October Shaker Of The Month. Ella brings her passion and determination to every session and gives it everything she’s got 100% of the time. One of the many things we love about Ella is her positive influence on those around her. Ella is always positive and is willing to lend a hand or a word of encouragement to others at just the right time in a workout. Her energy and enthusiasm is contagious and we are sure the other members appreciate it as well.

We recently caught up with Ella to find out a little bit more about what makes her tick:

So Ella, tell us a bit about yourself?

Well, I work at Naked Health Food, and I am studying marketing online. I love it, it’s a lot of fun. I love exercise- I guess I’m a bit of a fanatic. I have a holistic approach to exercise and nutrition and I believe it’s important to find the right balance.

How long have you been training at The Shake UP?

Ever since benny kicked it off at Pac Pines! Benny was my trainer at the gym first and then I moved to The Shake UP. I guess I’ve moved back and forth trying different things, but I’ve always come back to The Shake UP. I’ve tried Crossfit and other functional training programs, but nothing beats the atmosphere and the community at The Shake UP.

Why do you train Ella?

I love this sweaty feeling, I love the endorphins, and I love the way I feel afterwards. I guess body composition is important to me too. I like to keep fit and to push my limits and see what I can do. I don’t think people my age understand how good exercise is, how good it feels and in the long run, how beneficial it is for you.

What gets you through a session? What’s your motivator?

I thrive off the energy of others. I love to see the other members who are mothers and grandmothers who are putting in the same effort and using the same weights. I try to match that effort and give it my best every time. I love to see people achieving their goals.

What keeps you coming back to the Shake UP Ella?

The Coach! I was worried when Benny said he was getting a new Coach, because I’ve been with him for a long time and he set the bar pretty high, but Benny assured me I’d be happy and I am!

Also, the people are great, the workouts are different every time I come, and they are always pushing me to the next level. I love that they’re short and sharp. I’m in and out and I’m home by 7 so I can have my breakfast by 7:30. I find the gym environment boring, and it’s easy to think “I don’t have to do this, no one will know” I’m more accountable at The Shake UP. I love the group dynamic where everyone is doing the same thing and pushing each other along.

Worst exercise?

Running- I don’t mind the sprints, but the longer distances I find really hard. Push-ups are another exercise that I find really hard, but I have been doing 10 a day and incorporating them into my own workouts to try to improve, and I’m getting better at them.
