The Shake UP is an outdoor group training community that is filled with inspirational people achieving amazing things! If you want to reach your true potential, it always helps to have champions around you! Champions are the kind of people who know your name, will lift you to your best and will always enjoy a few laughs with you when it’s all said and done!
Our September Shaker of the Month – Andrew Brenchley is a champion in every sense of the word! A caring father and husband who for the past 6 months has been on a mission to optimal health and fitness. In our recent Winter 10 week Challenge, Andrew quit smoking, ditched the booze, stripped 8kgs and is teaching his two sons the value of health! We recently caught up with Andrew to find out more about his epic journey:
Tell us a bit about yourself Andrew?
Well I am 42 years old. I started here at the Shake UP about 6 months ago. I own a local business called, Everything Outside. We are a landscaping company focusing on school ground development projects. I really enjoy owning my own business,it allows me to balance being a father and spend time with family and friends. I love camping and spending time with my boys Josh (8) and Ben (7). I have been happily married to my beautiful wife Leah now for 11 years. Life is good!
Can you give us an idea of what being involved in the 10-week challenge meant to you?
I began the Challenge because I when i started here at the Shake UP my health and fitness was in pretty bad shape! I needed to get my nutrition right and i knew that without addressing my bad habits I was never going to make lasting changes.
I loved the challenge… I would love to do all of them! It taught me a whole new way of eating. What to eat and when to eat it! I thoroughly enjoyed it! It wasn’t just about food though, it was all about people and I am a real people person. I loved the group dynamic, I love the challenge workbook and being held accountable to my eating.
I started this challenge because I really didn’t want to grow old and fat! I love life so much that I just want to be here as long as I can. Life is so bloody great. When you hit 40 you kind of need to pick a lane….continue living the life that will lead to chronic disease or make a few positive changes and add an extra 20-30 years to your life. It’s really good to be here, to be alive and I want more of it! I really love being a father and want to enjoy these years being able to run around with the boys and have them here at training with me.
What gets you through a tough session Andrew?
Probably the results! The biggest lesson that I have learned from everything that I have done over the past 6 months is that once you get your health and fitness right, every other part of your life improves with it. If you can establish that one discipline in coming to training and pushing yourself to your best, it affects everything! Your work, your relationship with your wife and kids how you treat people around you, just because you have this great feeling that I have never experienced before. Nobody tells you that all those things are going to happen. I just came here to lose my gut but what I have found is this new level of excitement that really has developed all on the back of the discipline in coming here. You get physical results, mental results and fantastic things just start to happen and I like it and I can’t wait to see what else is out there!
What do you love about the Shake UP?
I love the people. I love training with a group who really push you to be better. The variety is great, not knowing what is in store. I love that my kids come here with me and that we are in and out in 30 minutes. It is a great community, filled with good people. There is not one douchebag here! I love it!
What’s the worst exercise or session for you Andy?
Probably the beep test. The ones that play with your mind! I find them toughest!
People like Andrew are the essence of the Shake UP culture. On any given day you will find Andrew and his sons Josh and Benny all racing into a Shake UP session, smiling, laughing and filled with positive energy.
