The Shake UP mission is to create strong training communities that influence and inspire through positive energy, comradery and courage. Our program is designed to remind people that they are capable of so much more and to move people out of the comfort zone that life often creates. To Shake things UP…. If you know what we mean?
Our Shaker of the month is the kind of person who aligns very well with the essence of this community. Kate Smith is a super inspiring girl who has become very familiar with that scary, uncomfortable place, where the greatest improvements reside.
We believe that what makes the Shake UP a great place to train is that our members really embrace a strong team culture and will do whatever it takes to lift the spirits of those training alongside them.
With members like Kate Smith around, it’s easy to get the most out of your 25-minute training session! We recently caught up with Kate to chat about inspiring and being inspired….
So Kate…Tell us a little bit about yourself
Well I am 29 years old, married to my beautiful husband Nathan for 3 years. We have 2 children named Riley (5) and Jack (8). I work full time and life is pretty hectic. We love to come here! We have pretty hectic lives so we love to use this environment as a kind of stress release. Nath and I really love to come here and smash out a challenging workout. It always makes you feel better, walking away happier parents and happier people
How long have you been training at the Shake UP?
Um… 2 years I think…?
What do you love about the Shake UP?
Definitely the friendships that I have made here, having something like this in our lives means that we socialise with the crew outside of here and it makes you really look forward to coming down here and seeing everyone! It’s just cool to have great friends with similar, positive interests. There are people here like Amy, Craig and Millie who really push me to another level and I love that! Without these people, I would be a completely different person. I have never trained this hard in my life! After having children, life is hard as there is very little adult interaction and stress is high, places like this give you the chance to connect with good people again and kind of rediscover this importance of great friendships.
I really enjoy the tough training culture here at the Shake UP. I love being pushed and I like to think that the example we set here inspires those around us to find their new level beyond that comfort zone. Having Nathan (My Hubby) in my sights when I am training really lifts me. Nathan has completely transformed himself and having him here to train alongside me is a massive motivator.
What have you achieved at the Shake UP Kate?
I have changed a lot physically but on top of that so much… I used to swim competitively and I believe that I am mentally stronger than what I was back in those training days. Emotionally I feel like I am more stable and better equipped to handle the stress that comes with being a busy parent.
What’s the worst workout for you at the Shake UP?
Continuous burpees! Kills me every time
A very deserved winner of our Shaker of the month. We are stoked to have people like Kate in our community and are very happy to say that she has scored herself an $50.00 coffee voucher from the very cool crew at Zarraffas Pacific Pines. A huge thanks to Felicia and the crew for the continued support to our community.
