The Shake UP – “Keep it Real Program” or “KIRP” is an initiative designed to create accountability for our hard working community.To succeed on your fitness journey, you need to grab a hold of something very tangible that will provide you with lasting motivation. One of the most powerful tools for this, are before and after photos. We believe it is our responsibility to create as much accountability for our members as possible. KIRP is clear, high quality and consistent photography on the month, every month to present our members with a very unique form of measuring progress.
As a trainer, you can sometimes pick those new participants that you know will kick ass. From their 1st session you can see that look of determination in their eye’s and you know they will get the outcome they are looking for. Success in this environment is always found through a strong attitude. Turing up ready to train your ass off at every session, week in, week out. This is exactly what Nathan Smith has done over the last 12 weeks and earned himself our, “KIRP Top Dog” for spring 2014 . We caught up with Nath to talk about what it takes to juggle a busy life and shed some serious fat!
G’day Nath…Tell us a little bit about yourself mate.
Ok so I am a father of two. Jack 7 and Riley 4 years old. I’ve been married about 1 year now to my beautiful wife Kate who trains by my side. Um… I am an electrician by trade and am consistently flat out! A very busy lifestyle.
How long have you been a member of the Shake UP?
About 4 months
Why did you begin your Shake UP journey?
Just wanted to feel better within myself. I was carrying a little too much weight and feeling sluggish. Kate 1st suggest I should come down and I thought…I really don’t want to do some bloody boot camp with a bunch of chics! 15 minutes into my 1st session and I realised this was the type of training environment I was looking for!
In these last 3 months you have really managed to drop some body fat, can you give us an idea of the awesome changes you have achieved?
Ok so over these 4 months I have gone from 107kg down to 88kg My body fat percentage has dropped 8% and I am feeling the best I have felt in a long time. I can see my jaw line and neck shape!
What do you enjoy most about the Shake UP?
The crew! Having a back ground in team sports, I need to be surrounded by that team environment where there are laughs, jokes and banter amongst tough training. The beauty of this for me is that I can have that team training feel and have my wife training alongside me and my kids running around having a blast. I would hate to have to leave them at home whilst I go and train.
What’s your worst exercise/workout?
Bear crawls. Hands down!
What’s your Why Nath? What gets you through the ugly times in a Shake UP session?
To be honest mate, all I have ever wanted to be is a professional athlete! I was always competitive as a young athlete but never really gave it a good crack as far as applying myself to training. For me now, I believe I owe that to myself, you know…Give myself an ass kicking to make up for it. I wish I could have had this type of training focus back then! On top of that, I really need to set a solid example for Jack my son. To show him that things are going to always get tough in life. I believe this training environment reflects those challenges and brings out a person’s real character.
