Take Your Reality Check Now!
You may be surprised at what you find out…

How Healthy Are You?
On a scale of 1 to 10…
1 being on your death-bed, and 10 being your fittest, healthiest, most vibrant self!
Think of a number.
Say it out loud.
Are you happy with that number?
Are you being honest?
Jump up from your computer, run into the bathroom and get naked!
Do you like what you see?
Does looking at yourself naked make you uncomfortable?
Did you get out of breath ‘running’ to the bathroom?
Are you healthy?
Now, on a scale of 1 to 10…How healthy are you REALLY?

A Healthy Laugh

Health is a funny thing…not ‘Ha-ha’ funny, but a “why do men have nipples?” funny – Something we don’t quite understand, but there’s probably an answer if we looked into it…anyway, health is a funny thing.

Without our health, we have nothing. Yet, it is one of the first things to be forgotten when life gets busy.
The budget gets tight…
“Oooh, I can’t afford my gym membership anymore.
The $100 on booze and food on a Friday night is a non-negotiable, but spending money on maintaining health and vitality gets the cut.

“6 bucks for a punnet of blueberries?!?!? No way I can afford that…” But the Grande-Mocha-Frappuccino is a must have food item!

No time for exercise?! How long do you spend on Facebook and Twitter each day?
We can’t do without knowing what the Kardashians are up to, but we’re ok with rapidly losing the desire and the ability to move.

“I’ve got to put food on the table, I don’t have the luxury of working out!”
Exercise is not a luxury – it is essential for maintaining health. If you don’t make time for exercise, you won’t be around for your family at all.

It’s hard to hear, but sometimes we need a REALITY CHECK!

What will be your REALITY CHECK?

Not fitting into those jeans you love?
Being exhausted chasing after your kids in the park?
A heart attack?!?!?

For our Shaker of the Month, it was hearing from a pretty nurse that he was “…a little fat in the belly.”

Kev Perrow is a father of 2 beautiful children and a mad-keen surfer. He has a lovely wife, Lauren and together they run a successful, but extremely time-consuming Web-Design business.

Kev and Lauren moved to Australia from South Africa, and have worked so hard to gain the success they have – unfortunately, their health has suffered.
Kev thought he was doing ok. When he ate, he ate plenty of veggies…that’s good isn’t it?
Well yeah, but if it’s the only meal you eat all day and you’ve been sitting and staring at a computer all day, you are rapidly heading into lifestyle-related-disease-territory!

Have You Lost Your Passion?

Kev didn’t feel fat. He’d always been active, he just doesn’t have time at the moment.
As we all know, it is so easy for us to just get caught up in life, and gradually lose sight of our own health and desires.
It wasn’t just that Kev was getting “a little fat in the belly,” but he hadn’t surfed in 4 years! Kev grew up surfing every day, 2 or 3 times a day. Surfing is his passion! Yet he hadn’t surfed in 4 years!

What Has Changed?

Since Kev joined The Shake UP 10 Week Challenge, he has lost almost 10kg, he is shredding in the surf again, he looks a million dollars, and I just know he is a better husband, father and business owner.

“I’ve got so much more energy, I’m waking up fine in the morning, I’m actually sleeping well at night.”

Kev was lucky that his REALITY CHECK came in the form of a pretty nurse. Some people aren’t that lucky. Often it takes a heart attack, stroke, diabetes, or some other lifestyle disease before we take our health seriously.
Don’t make that mistake.

Committed to Change

Kev realised he had to make some changes and he committed himself to doing so.
Kev jumped into this Challenge with both feet and has made some amazing changes. His commitment and determination have allowed him to see the success that he has, and we appreciate the effort that Kev continually puts in at The Shake UP Sessions and outside of them.
Congratulations on Shaker of the Month Kev, I know you are maintaining your healthy lifestyle and you will continue to reap the rewards!
You’ve done so well mate, you’re a champion!

Not only does Kev get a new body and increased energy, but for his incredible efforts, he also receives Breakfast and Coffee for Two at the Amazing Euphoria Espresso Cafe in Robina – Thank you so much Richard and Esther for your support.

Let’s have a read of what Kev has to say…

Tell us a little bit about yourself Kev

I have a web-design business – October will be 10 years. I spend every day behind a desk. Sometimes 8 hours straight – I work pretty hard, and because I work so hard, I don’t eat right. I’ve been putting on a lot of weight, I’ve got 2 kids – one very active 4 year old, and my daughter just turned one.

Also the transition coming from South Africa to Australia on South African Rands was pretty tough, so I had to hit it at a hundred miles an hour, so I stopped surfing, and haven’t really done any exercise in 4 years pretty much, and after hearing from some Shake up Members about how it was working for them and how much weight they were losing – for me I was more interested in the fitness aspect, I didn’t realise I needed the weight aspect as well. I didn’t really identify that I had an eating problem – by eating problem, I mean I was only eating 1 meal a day. I thought I was doing ok because I was eating loads of veggies, but eating more throughout the day has been a real challenge for me.

You’ve been a part of The Shake UP Community for 3 months now, what was it that brought you here?

Trying to chase after my 3-year-old and getting absolutely knackered. The fact I’m not  surfing you know, I’ve been surfing since I was 6 years old, every single day, 2 or 3 times a day, and I just  look back over the last 4 years, I’ve done no surfing and I just really want to get back into it. I just want to get fit again.

Can you tell me one achievement that you are proud of to date:

Getting below 75 kg!

I convinced myself that at my age, being over 80kg for my build was ok. I went to the doctor in January and I had a pretty nurse do my BMI – she told me I was overweight. I told her that I don’t feel overweight, and her words were: “…a little in the belly.” It was only then that I realised that I’m starting to get a belly, and I’m getting closer to 40, so  knew I needed to lose weight – I didn’t think I’d reach 75kg, but now I’m less than 75kg, so I’m really happy with that. (from 82kg)

To make those changes, you have to push yourself pretty hard during the workouts, what is it that gets you through a workout?

There have been a few sessions where I’ve come and I’ve felt tired and sluggish and I can’t get in the right mind-set, and I’ve gone home and I feel like I didn’t push myself – the following week, I pushed so much harder and I felt so much better afterwards – you get out what you put in. I like to put in as much as I can, those times I walked away feeling I could’ve done a few more burpees or ball-slams, and I don’t want to walk away feeling like that. I just don’t want to let myself down.

So what is it that you like about The Shake UP? What keeps you coming back?

Training on my own or with my mate, it was easy for us to slack off. We might have had too many beers over the weekend, so we’ll just do a couple of minutes and go home. Here with so many people around there’s so much motivation, you just want to do more because everyone’s backing you up. A couple of sessions I thought I was going to die, and I had Jess and Jeff say “Come on Kev, you can do it” It’s motivating.

Can you tell us how the Shake UP has impacted your every day life?

My nutrition! I went from eating one meal a day and not exercising, to eating 5 meals a day and exercising 3 or 4 times a week – my body feels better. Having 5 meals a day, eating the right food at the right time, I’ve got so much more energy, I’m waking up fine in the morning, I’m actually sleeping well at night. Before, I’d go to bed, and I’d toss and turn for 3 hours, now I hit the pillow and Lights out!

Which exercise is your least favourite?

I actually don’t mind burpees, and I like ball-slams. Planking is probably my least favourite!
