Sam Cannon, Shaker of the Month, November ’15

One of the main aims of The Shake UP is to build a positive community of individuals who inspire each other to constantly improve their quality of life through healthy practices.

Here at The Shake UP we are truly thankful for the opportunity to meet so many amazing people who are dedicated to making changes.

The November Shaker of the month is one of those guys who reminds us why we got into the fitness industry in the first place. A truly positive human being who is always looking to improve. Love your work Sam.

Sam Cannon is relatively new to our community, but he has totally embraced The Shake UP way of life. Not only is he making hugely positive changes in his own life, but he is always an inspiration to those around him – always there to provide comic relief when the going gets tough and the mood needs lifting.
So congratulations Sam on a well-deserved Shaker Of the Month!

Tell us a little bit about yourself Sam.

I’m 67 years old, I’ve been married for 39 years and I have 3 daughters.
I was born in Hong-kong, but migrated to Australia in 1971. It was the single best decision of my life, because if I hadn’t moved here I would never have met my wife Julie.

39 years is an amazing effort, what’s the secret?

Communication is important and you can never stop trying. It’s our 40th anniversary on the 1st of May and life is good- we’re together as a family. Everybody goes through trials and tribulations, but it makes you realise how important family is. It’s not easy, but it’s important.

Aside from your amazing wife and daughters, what keeps you busy?

I’ve had a varied career – I’m always looking for different challenges, for something new.
I’ve always been involved in sport. I used to do offshore swimming with Lifesaving, and then I got into cycling and triathlons. There was a time I was doing 320km a week on the bike. I find cycling a lot more social than swimming.

That’s great! What does your training week look like these days?

I do 3 Shake UP sessions a week and try to get 3 bike sessions in – either on the spin bike, or on the road.

So what is it that you like about The Shake UP?

Well, I’m now convinced that your philosophy works. I’ve tried to lose weight before, I thought I was eating well, but since following The Shake UP program I’ve realised I was eating crap. I’ve lost 13kg in the last 13 weeks! I’ve got 8 more that I want to lose.

Well done Sam! Massive effort!
Can you tell us what it is that pushes you through a workout? What are you thinking?

Why am I here?!?!?
No, I just want to give it a good Shake! I’ve lost weight, I’m getting stronger and I just want to improve all the time. I’m going to the Tour Down Under at the end of January, so I want to be in shape for that.

Which exercise is your least favourite?

Bear crawls would have to be the worst. I’m always impressed that you can get such a hell of a workout without all the equipment of a gym.

For his continued effort, Sam has scored himself some great nutritional Supplements from the crew at Punish Nutrition. A big thanks to Nic and the boys from Punish for all of the support that they bring to our communities.
