Mums are tops!
I’m lucky enough to have 3 amazing mums in my immediate circle – My mum, who is The World’s Best Mum; My Mum-in-Law who is impossible to fault; and my wife who is the most incredible mum to my gorgeous twins Mia and Reef.
I also have the privilege of sharing the journey of so many mums getting their fitness back after too long looking after everyone but themselves.
Way too often, I hear of mums feeling guilty for ‘wasting’ time and money on themselves. Putting everyone else’s needs before their own.
How good are mums?!?! They’re tops. “Mums: Fit your own oxygen mask first.”
But there comes a time when mums need to do something for themselves.
Now is that time for our June Shaker of the Month, Shelley Tindall.
Shelley has a 12 year old daughter, 4 and 2 year old sons, and a husband to look after. She also works part time and manages to get to 3 or 4 Shake UP sessions every week!
I told ya…mums are tops.
After putting others first for 12 years, Shelley is ready to finally do something for herself! And she’s smashing it! Shelley always gives her best and she is improving every session. Shell recently told me that she thinks the sessions are getting harder. And you know what? I loved hearing that. I wasn’t making the sessions harder – Shelley is getting fitter, stronger and mentally tougher. So every session she does, she gives that little bit more – pushes herself that little bit harder…and that is how we make positive change.
And Shelley is reaping the rewards. She is feeling happier, healthier and better than ever! And she’s looking great!
In true mum fashion, Shelley’s efforts are not just helping her. Shelley’s inspiring attitude is rubbing off on her daughter Sienna, who won’t let mum go to The Shake UP without her – unless it’s too cold ; )
Leading by example – showing the kids the importance of health and well-being is something we should all strive for.

We recently caught up with Shelley, and here is what she had to say…
Tell us a little bit about yourself Shelley,
I have 3 kids, Hamish, Nash and Sienna who are 2, 4 and 12 years old. I work part time, and my husband’s name is Ben – well maybe I have 4 kids ; )
I’m ready to do something for ME.
You’ve been a part of The Shake UP Community for a little over 2 months now, what was it that brought you here?
My Aunty Tina. I started training with my brother at a gym because I really wanted to get fit again, and then Aunty Tina told me about The Shake UP. I did my trial and quickly realised that this is for me.
Why do you work out?
It makes me feel really good. I’m much happier since I’ve been training. I Feel better and feel healthier.
When the sessions get hard, what is going through your mind? What is it that pushes you on?
All different things. I’m thinking “I might fit back into my clothes if I push a little bit harder.” I haven’t fit into my jeans for a few years. I just try to better myself every time.
So what is it that you like about The Shake UP? What keeps you coming back?
I love that it’s early, it’s quick. I can do a session and get home before hubby goes to work – It really fits in with our life and with the kids.
If I just went to a gym I wouldn’t work half as hard as I do here, so it’s way better here, in that respect… in all respects, it’s just amazing, I love it. I’ll never join a gym again!

Just then – sprints! And burpees. There are a few more but that will do for now. There’s a list!
There certainly are plenty of hated exercises Shell, but you keep coming back and keep giving your all.
