Shaker of the Month – Andrew Hill

In the past 3 months, Andrew Hill has stripped 14 kg of fat and discovered the confidence that comes with looking better, feeling energised and being able to train with purpose!

Andrew’s journey is remarkable! This 4th year mechanical engineering student has transformed from a cuddly, standoffish kind of kid to a lean and strong willed young dude!

The Shake UP is a group training program that has become the force for so many inspiring success stories. Most people begin like Andrew did…Out of shape, intimidated and not exactly enjoying the adaptation phase of training!

Andrew began training 1-2 times a week and made it pretty clear he was really only coming along to appease his father’s enthusiasm.

Everything changed when Andrew decided to commit to our 10 week Challenge!

14kg of fat loss in 10 weeks

Goals in place, a better understanding of how to eat for fat loss and a disciplined approach to his training, Andrew went from 96 kg to 82 kg!

The physical achievements are typically the motivator for most people. What we admire most about Andrew’s transformation though was his shift in attitude. As his confidence grew, so too did his contribution to the rest of the group and helping others achieve their goals!

Our Winter Challenge finished with a group hike to the Mt Warning Summit. In what can only be described as a noble act of comradery, Andrew supported and encouraged his Challenge buddy from the base to the summit.

We rise by lifting others and our August Shaker of the month is a wonderful reminder of that. We recently caught up with Andy to chat about his transformation:

So Andy, Tell us a little bit about yourself?

Well I am 23 years old and am currently in my 4th year studying Mechanical engineering at Griffith Uni. I guess I got into that through a love of math and a passion for designing things. Life is good…I am in my final semester of classes at uni, so I have one subject remaining.

How long have you been training here for?

Probably about 12 months I think. When I began, i found it pretty tough and was only getting to 1 maybe 2 sessions a week. It felt like it was consistently, pretty horrible. I guess I really wasn’t seeing results training with that kind of frequency. When the Winter Challenge started, I really ramped things up and was getting to 4-5 sessions a week. It actually became easy and more enjoyable the more I came!

Tell us about your Challenge Experience?

The Challenge was where everything changed for me. I cleaned up my eating and just got more organised I think. It gave me a pretty good indication of how important nutrition is. I felt like I got fitter and was able to train harder.

My beep test score went from a  score of level 10 in week one of the challenge to level 12.2 in week 10!

There is no doubt that losing weight makes things easier. I lost 13.8kg during the challenge so seeing those kind of changes made it easy to stay on track and keep applying myself. I think overall, doing the challenge helped me bring more discipline back to all areas of my life. Through my 2nd year at uni it was all about studying and my health was put on hold a bit. I am feeling great at the moment and I am happily still applying the strategies I learned on the challenge so I am looking forward to some new challenges. Dad and I are entering a triathlon in November, so I have started doing some training for that. Be good to beat Dad!

What do you love about The Shake UP?

Um… I really enjoy the energy of the group. I was pretty quiet when I 1st began training here but everyone is really supportive and friendly so it definitely helps make it easier. The sessions are tough but I kind of like that now. Now that I am a bit fitter, I enjoy coming down here and being challenged physically and mentally.

What’s the toughest thing for you here at The Shake UP?

Um…I really dislike the Walk Out Push Up workout. That kind of sucks! I know that when it’s tough though its the best thing for me!

10-Week Challenge

Andrew’s attitude is really captures The Shake UP spirit and we are stoked to have people like him in our training community.

For all of his hard work, Andrew has scored a remedial massage with Andrew Saunders of Raynor Massage Gold Coast. Andrew is getting such great results with our members and we can’t recommend his service enough! Thanks for the continued Support Andy! To book a massage, call Andy on 0415 389 079
