Jamie Douglas, Shaker of the Month, July’16

We all know how easy it is to let a busy life get in the way of our own well being. Being under pressure at work and spending the little time that you have to yourself with your family. Pretty quickly the months and years roll by and you somehow stacked on 20kgs and you are struggling to keep up with your kids!

How do you balance work commitments, family life and still strip 12kg and become addicted to your training community?

Our July Shaker of the month knows what it takes to take the power back and is in the best shape of his life and recently completed the Kokoda Challenge with his son.

We recently caught up with Jamie Douglas to find out what it takes to turn your life around in 12 months!

So Jamie, tell us a bit about yourself? Well, I am 41 years old, I have been married to my beautiful high school sweetheart wife, Rachel for 20 years. We have 2 kids, Riley 14 years and Mia 12 years old. We have lived in Pac Pines for 14 years now. We love it here! I have been working in the kitchen supplies industry. I enjoy work though it does get pretty stressful sometimes!  Life is pretty much all about the family with fitting some fishing time in when I can!

How long have you been training at the Shake UP Jamie? Its just over 12 months. Jay Noble brought me down here, kind of kicking and screaming. I am so grateful to him for bringing me down here. It has changed my life!

Why do you train Jamie? When I started here at the Shake UP I was pretty stressed at work and needed to do something. I was the heaviest I have ever been! I was 116kg and struggling to keep up with the kids! I am now down to 104 kg and feeling way more confident. When I was in highschool I was 98kg and I would love to get back to that weight! 12 months ago I couldn’t bare the thought of training and now I find that I cant handle missing it! I work interstate a lot and have withdrawals when I can’t get here!

Tell us about your recent Kokoda adventure with your son? My son Riley Registered and I was originally only going along to the info evening for support. Next thing I knew I was doing it with him kind of in a leadership role, helping 4 Grade 9 boys complete the Challenge. It was a pretty tough challenge and I don’t think I could have completed this 12 months ago before training at the Shake UP! It took us 15.5 hours to walk the 48km. The last 10km were the toughest, mentally and emotionally i think. We completed it though and for that I was pretty proud of the boys!

What keeps you coming back to the Shake UP mate? I love the atmosphere here! I wouldn’t be where I am today if this wasn’t such an enjoyable place to be! Its always challenging, there is always plenty of laughs and its just so supportive.

What would you say was your worst exercise or workout mate? Upper body stuff kills me. I hated running when i started here but now I am actually enjoying running. My 1st session at the Shake UP was the 300m lap workout that we did last night. The difference in last night’s session in comparison to the 1st time I did it is huge! I feel like I am so much fitter now which is just so rewarding!

What a legend! It’s an absolute pleasure having guys like Jamie in our training community. A very deserved winner of our Shaker of the Month. For all his hard work and commitment, Jamie has scored himself some goodies from the Punish Natural Nutrition crew. Thanks so much to Punish for the continued support to the Shake UP.
