How do you find time to take care of your health and fitness when you have a pumping business and a busy family life? Some believe that it’s all too tough while others set the alarm an hour earlier and just make it happen! Quentin McCarthy is an inspiring reminder that we can all squeeze a little more time for ourselves out of our busy schedules.
Our July Shaker of the month is always smiling and enthused at 5.30am, willing to give his best efforts in the interest of becoming fitter, healthier and a more active father. Pretty bloody inspiring stuff!
We recently caught up with Quentin to chat about juggling business, family and well being:
So Quentin, tell us a bit about yourself? Well, I am married to my beautiful wife Kim and we have 2 children, Samuel 13 and Chelsea 11. Life is great and usually pretty busy. I am self employed, running my business, Fire Power, fire protection. For many years I worked for a multinational company and came to the conclusion that I wanted to focus more on customer relationships and great service. So I created Fire Power 5 years ago and am really enjoying the journey of creating my own vision.
Why do you train Quentin? I began training here after my good friend Phil suggested I should come along. At the time I had just finished coaching my son Samuel’s football team so I needed something to keep me in shape. The early starts really suit me and my lifestyle. I guess I train to manage stress also. I find that being here in the mornings is the perfect springboard for a great day. As I am sure many business owners agree, there is always a lot on my mind so I enjoy training to help manage the stress.
How long have you been training at the Shake UP Quentin? It must be about 6 months I’d say. I remember how tough everything was in the beginning! I feel like I have come a long way over these 6 months. My strength and fitness are up and I am able to push myself harder each session.
What keeps you coming back to the Shake UP mate? I believe it’s the camaraderie amongst all the members! Since my 1st session here, I have been encouraged and made to feel very welcome. I love the energy around the beep test, everyone supporting one another. It’s exactly how it should be! Recently my friends here completed the Kokoda Challenge and seeing that has inspired me. Training at the Shake UP certainly helped Phil, Dean and Anje get through those 96km and it really gives me hope and confidence that I could do something like that. Its very inspiring!
What would you say was your worst exercise or workout mate? I would have said burpees a couple of months ago but I am getting better at them so I don’t mind them too much.
What a legend! It’s an absolute pleasure having guys like Quentin in our training community. A very deserving winner of our Shaker of the Month. For all his hard work and commitment, Quentin has scored himself a remedial massage with the Guru Sports massage therapist Peter Griffin from Palm Beach Chiropractic. Thanks so much to Pete for the continued support to the Shake UP.
